Automaton are steampunk-like robots that can be found in the Ruins, Hell, the Caves, and the Citadel. They are friendly to Humans and other Automaton and will not attack the player if they are playing any monster race unless provoked. They do not spawn with items nor do they drop any, although they can pick up items from the ground and equip them (Any item they have will be dropped upon death). They can be recruited by any race as followers. Automaton can be lockpicked on their back, making them explode and drop a huge amount of scraps or turn hostile if the lockpick fails.

Automatons also have a unique death sequence, where upon their death they will explode and deal alot of damage to anyone nearby.

Recycling[]

Automatons will randomly do a process known as "Recycling", where they will take two items in their inventory (that they do not have equipped) and "recycle" them, creating a new item which has a gold value of 33-66% of the items that have been recycled, this also gives you an achievement but its kind of buggy.

Malfunction[]

When an Automaton is low on health, it "breaks"

When an Automaton breaks, it will become confused and attack everything it sees, including the player even if it has been recruited by them.

This can be stopped by using "Cure Ailment" on the affected Automaton or just having friendly fire disabled.

This makes them a little dangerous to have around you, so its best to recruit them then kill them or lockpick their backs for XP or Scrap.
