== Levels 5-10: Swamp ==
Levels 5-10 contain the Swamp, a much more wide open and less claustrophobic area of Barony. The Jungle introduces many new elements to the game, such as poison dart traps and swimming sections. With the dungeon meant to simulate the "outside", there are not as many hairpin turns and tight corners as there are in the Ruins, though the danger is by no means diminished. Goblins begin spawning in the Jungle, carrying any kind of gear imaginable, from halberds to swords to bows to magic staves. Most of the threat of cursed equipment from the Ruins is absent here, though identifying is still advised. Spiders, Trolls, Slimes, and Ghouls also spawn here, but they appear to be at odds with the Goblins and frequently fight eachother. Groups of 1-4 NPCs also wander the jungle, slaying monsters and generally just adventuring around here as well. Boulder traps are less common but still spawn around the edges of the map, often rolling across the entire level before coming to a stop. Food can be found in the form of fish that spawns near natural rivers and lakes, usually always fresh. There are also structures entirely devoted to killing the player such as the Quad Boulder Trap, which activates four boulders that roll away from an origin point, crushing everything in their path, as well as waterways that end in poison dart traps.

Revision as of 05:27, 30 June 2015

This Section is for level info on anything within the levels of 1-20 you can post hints(make them spoilers) and tips and overall general info about the levels.

Level 0: Dungeon Entrance

Barony Level 0

This is the area all dungeon delves start in, where the party assembles to arrange their inventories, prepare spells, and

grab a few torches. It's good to come up with some sort of plan here, as you won't find much time for thought in the dungeon.

Levels 1-5: Ruins

Levels 1-5 consist of the Ruins, which contain Skeleton, Rat, Giant Spider, and Troll mobs. Occasionally Funny Bones may spawn, who does a high amount of damage and is somewhat durable; he drops a cloak of protection and a magical axe always. Torches are plentiful here, though it is not unusual to enter a level with no torches at all sometimes. Level 3 or 4 usually contains a double lock gate that requires two levers to be pulled, where the reward is the chance to go to Minetown, an NPC village. The other option is to be thrown into the Gnomish Mines, which is most certainly a death sentence without an amulet or cape of magic reflection. Level 5 is a "checkpoint", which contains two chests and possibly a campfire for extra torches, so use this time wisely to heal up a bit and identify extra items before descending.

  • The Gnomish Mines is utterly terrifying for a new player. Starting out in a well-lit room, the player is situated in the center of a maze filled with magic gnomes and hostile trolls that will try to kill you. Do not panic, do not stay in the beginning room for more than a few seconds or the gnomes will burst through the doors. Immediately leave the room as soon as possible, most likely laughing and wailing madly through those darkened arcades of antiquity. At low levels, the gnome's lightning magic will 1 or 2 hit kill the player. A good way to avoid the gnomes is to listen to their "chip-chip" sounds that they make and avoid that direction. Never stop running, because they will find you and chase you. If you somehow manage to kill the gnomes and trolls, they will drop excellent magic staves of lightning and pickaxes, as well as identified valuable gems and large amounts of gold. The risk is near fatal, but the reward for clearing the Gnomish Mines is incredible.
  • Minetown contains 4-5 shops, at least half a dozen friendly Human NPCs, and one or two fountains. It is not a guarantee that there will be a food shop here, as a word of warning. There is almost always a general store to sell any item for extra gold here as well. With a staff of unlocking, a player can access the underground lake past the grates in the back of town to reach a secret area with a chest and an easter egg Minecraft pickaxe, though this pickaxe is not actually usable unfortunately. The Minotaur will never spawn here.
  • Stocking up on meat here is a great idea, as food will become more scarce as the game progresses. Save any jewelry you come across, as some stores may buy them for a good sum of gold. Fountains are not usually a good idea at low levels because the armor you have equipped may not be the best candidate for blessing, and the poison effect could kill you outright if you are unlucky.
  • Most of the equipment on these levels is cursed, so remember to identify whatever you find first. A top priority for melee classes would be to kill Funny Bones and acquire his magical axe, it has one of the highest damages for a weapon in the early game. Pick up any scrolls you may find because these could be identified later and a scroll of food would be very welcome indeed.
  • This current patch, it may be better to lure any human companions to their deaths because their gear is usually very good for a starting character and is almost always safe to equip.

Levels 5-10: Swamp

  • It's advisable to wait around in the spawn room for half a minute or so to let the boulders roll and Goblins die or fight the other monsters to make the level easier to clear. You never know what terrible magic fight might be exploding just outside the door.
  • NPC shops are common, often spawning two around the center of the map along with a fountain. It's possible to get the NPC adventurers to kill the shopkeepers with certain potions, though this is extremely dangerous.
  • The Minotaur will still occasionally spawn, but finding the exit in the Jungle is much easier than the Ruins since the level map is so much more open.
  • A secret entrance to the Jungle Temple or Haunted Mansion can be found randomly spawned inside the Jungle, guarded by a bottomless pit and a hallway of boulder traps.
  • Various features such as Goblin encampments and Jungle ruins can provide the player with a temporary rest from the chaos outside, or at least until the doors are busted down.

Levels 10-15: Sand Labyrinth

Levels 10-15 contain the deadly Sand Labyrinth, filled the the brim with new traps and obstacles. The player is trapped in what looks like a Pharaoh's tomb of sorts, and has a maze-like layout every level. Scorpions spawn here, equipped with deadly poison, as well as multitudes of Trolls. The Sand Labyrinth sees the introduction of Spike Traps and many more Boulder and Poison Dart traps. Lava also makes a first appearance, spelling death for anyone foolish enough to walk over it. NPC shops have not yet been found here, though further exploration is needed. Food is scarce, being only found in chests or from scrolls of food. The Labyrinth is usually well-lit and contains very good equipment compared to previous levels, though almost all of it is guarded by dangerous traps, lava, and walls that must be hacked away with a pickaxe.

Sand Portal to Sakoban
  • A portal to either Sakoban or the Minotaur Maze can be found inside the closed walls of a secret area, surrounded by lava. A pickaxe is required to enter.
  • A necklace or ring of poison resistance is recommended for the Sand Labyrinth as poison damage is very common here.
